Research Abstract

Since the old age, developing societies have been very interested in children in general and the mentally disabled in particular, especially since the human element in these societies is the real wealth. Therefore, attention to the building of the mentally handicapped child and the modification of his behavior and development is a necessity for the progress of society and its development. To provide social workers working with the mentally handicapped, through training on these programs that benefit in the development of professional performance and provide the social workers with the skills and experience necessary for him as a component of professional practice. Second: Study Objectives: The present study is based on the main objective of: To identify the necessary cognitive needs of social workers in the field of mental disability. Third: Concepts of the study: The concepts of the study were defined in the following concepts: The concept of cognitive needs. 2. Concept of mental disability. Methodological Procedures for the Study: 1 - Type of study: This study belongs to the pattern of descriptive studies. 2 - Methodology of the study: a comprehensive social survey methodology for social workers schools of intellectual education in Cairo. 3. Data collection tools: This study was based on a main tool: questionnaire for social workers in the field of mental disability. 5- Fields of study: (A) Spatial field: The study was implemented in all schools of intellectual education in Cairo governorate (23) schools, followed by (17) educational administration. (B) The human field: a comprehensive inventory of all social workers in schools of intellectual education in Cairo Governorate, number (48) social worker. (C) Time domain: the period of data collection from the field and analysis and interpretation of the overall results of the study. Fifth: The results of the study: The study proved the importance of cognitive needs in the development of social workers working with the mentally handicapped, according to the priority order of knowledge needs in descending order as follows: (basic knowledge and specialized in the field of mental disability - knowledge related to work with the mentally disabled itself - Related to the nature of work in schools of intellectual education.
