Verb and Sentence Test Using Electronic Multimedia for Individuals with Aphasia

Research Abstract

Abstract: The Verb and Sentence Test using Electronic Multimedia for Individuals with Aphasia is the first of its kind in the Arabic language. It aims to assess the ability of individuals with aphasia to produce and understand verbs and sentences using electronic multimedia to describe the verbs, sentences, and tenses contained within them. Therefore, the current research aimed to construct a verb and sentence test for individuals with aphasia and verify its psychometric properties. In order to achieve this goal, the researcher reviewed many theoretical frameworks and previous studies that focused on aphasia disorder. To construct the current scale, a sample of (70) individuals was identified and divided into (40) individuals who did not suffer from aphasia, and (30) individuals who suffered from aphasia to verify the psychometric properties of the test, at Beni Suef University Hospital, and many hospitals and rehabilitation centers in Beni Suef Governorate, in addition to Hurghada General Hospital, Hurghada Health Insurance Hospital, and many rehabilitation centers in the Red Sea Governorate. The current research relied on the use of a verb and sentence test for individuals with aphasia (prepared by the researcher). A description of previous tests in this regard, other than Arabic, is provided, in addition to providing information about constructing a verb and sentence test using electronic multimedia for individuals with aphasia. The results of the research on the psychometric properties of the Verb and Sentence Test for Individuals with Aphasia, as demonstrated by data obtained from participants, indicate that the Verb and Sentence Test for Individuals with Aphasia effectively discriminates between individuals with and without aphasia and distinguishes between different types of verb and sentence deficits in individuals with aphasia, with high validity and reliability. Thus, the Verb and Sentence Test using electronic multimedia for Individuals with Aphasia provides a reliable research and clinical tool for assessing the comprehension and/or production of verbs and/or sentences in the Arabic context and is suitable for use in future research.
