Master Abstract

This thesis aims to: Identify the effectiveness of a guidance program using play activities to improve verbal, non-verbal and social communication skills, as well as auditory, visual, tactile, gustatory and olfactory sensory skills among autistic children, by presenting a program based on the scientific and advisory foundations used in directing and counseling this group. of children and verify the effectiveness of this program and the techniques it includes, in order to verify the psychological and social compatibility and mental health of children with autism. The results of the study reached the following: - The counseling program used in this study helped develop and improve verbal, non-verbal and social communication skills, as well as develop and improve the auditory, visual, tactile, olfactory and gustatory sensory skills of autistic children. Which indicates its effectiveness. - The guidance program used is characterized by its continued effectiveness.

A Training Program for Improving Phonological Awareness and its Impact on the Treatment of Speech and Language Disorders among Educable Mentally Retarded Children

PHD Abstract

Abstract The aim of the current study is to identify the effectiveness of training program for improving phonological awareness and its impact on the treatment of speech (Stuttering) and language disorders (Delayed Language Development) among Educable mentally retarded Children. This is attained by providing a program built on the scientific and practical bases followed in coaching and training this group of children and verifying its effectiveness and techniques in order to prove the psychological and social adjustment and mental health among Educable mentally retarded Children. The quasi-experimental method of experimental and control groups was used. The study tools consisted of: Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales, Fifth Edition (SB-5) (Arabization and Standardization is by Safwat Farag, 2010), a scale of economic, cultural and social level of the family (prepared by the researcher), a scale of phonological awareness among mentally retarded children (prepared by the researcher), a scale of language development among educable mentally retarded children (prepared by the researcher), a scale of stuttering diagnosis among educable mentally retarded children (prepared by the researcher), a form of speech disorders among educable mentally retarded children (prepared by the researcher), and the training program (prepared by the researcher). The study sample consisted of 20 educable mentally retarded children attending speech clinics at Imbaba Institute for Hearing and Speech at Giza Governorate. Their ages ranged between 4.6 and 6.3 years. They were divided into two experimental and control groups with a consider to the group sample heterogeneity, ages, IQ (67: 69), sex, and the economic and social level. The study findings are as follow: (a) the correctness of the study hypotheses; the training program used in this study has helped to develop and improve phonological awareness, as well as the treatment of speech disorders (stuttering) and receptive and expressive language development among educable mentally retarded children leading to verify its effectiveness, and (2) the impact of the training program is continual.
